Coronavirus Stimulus Package Includes $1,200 Check for Majority of Americans
Congress passed the stimulus bill to provide much needed relief for individual Americans, small businesses, and larger industries. The bill includes a one-time payment of $1,200 for most American adults. Payments will be less for individuals that make more than $75,000 per year and for childless couples with a combined income of more than $150,000. Individuals that make $99,000 per year and childless couples with a combined income of $198,000 will not receive anything.
Families will also receive $500 for each child 16 years or younger on top of their individual stimulus checks. This applies to all families, so long as a 2-child household makes no more than $218,000.
The bill also expanded unemployment benefits, adding an extra $600 of federal unemployment aid per month on top of state benefits. This will be available for four months. Part time employees and those otherwise affected by the coronavirus crisis are now eligible for unemployment.
Another key provision involves student loans. Student loans will be suspended without penalty until September 30, 2020. The bill also provides for mortgage and rent assistance in some cases.
